CORE SERVICES
Our Curriculum
INTERNAL MEDICINE CONTINUITY CLINIC
Our clinic is staffed with legendary primary care physicians originating from both private practice and academia who have a loyal patient population with high expectations and standards. We also are staffed by one of the best neurologists in the deep south allowing residents to gain expertise in outpatient neurology while in clinic. Clinic is scheduled for every 5th week and upper-level residents share MOD and home clinic call responsibilities. Fridays of clinic weeks are reserved for simulation lab curriculum.

HOSPITALIST/NOCTURNIST INTERNAL MEDICINE
Our program features 3 teaching teams within a traditional structure with a 1:1:2 attending-to-resident-to-intern ratio and rotating on-call and admitting responsibilities while insuring direct interaction with attendings to enrich education experience yielding both a rigorous and supportive training environment that will have you well exposed to all aspects of patient care and providing a comprehensive educational experience.
One of the unique aspects of our program is the night float rotation, a junior and senior resident-only rotation specifically designed to increase autonomy among residents which ultimately translates into better patient care. This rotation allows residents to focus on self-improvement and is structured to help residents become confident and competent in their clinical skills prior to graduating.
CONSULT SERVICES
CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE
Cardiology plays an integral part in the history, present and future of Centennial Medical Center. The rotation takes place in collaboration with the renowned Centennial Heart. A vast majority of these cardiologist were trained at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic with expertise also from Emory, Lenox Hill, and Vanderbilt trained physicians. Centennial serves as a referral site for LVAD, cardiogenic shock, electrophysiology, and pulmonary embolism.
HEMATOLOGICAL & ONCOLOGICAL MEDICINE
We enjoy a close relationship with our Hematologists and Oncologists at Centennial Medical Center. Our GME facilities are in the same building as Tennessee Oncology offices and Sarah Cannon Center for Blood Cancer and our building is located between the Sarah Cannon Research Institute and the Sarah Cannon Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant wing of Centennial Hospital. Our clinicians have trained at Dana Farber, Duke University, Memorial Sloan Kettering, MD Anderson, National Institutes of Health, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Texas Southwestern and are leaders in clinical trials as well as being gifted clinicians and teachers.

GASTROENTERLOGIC MEDICINE
Our consult service is sponsored by the Frist GI clinic staffed by mostly Vanderbilt alumni supplemented with a leader in the fields of EMR and RFA who completed his fellowship at University of Alabama Birmingham under a Nobel nominee. Work is self-paced, and the best consults are reserved for the residents with the ability to watch as many procedures as a resident desires.

INTENSIVE/CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE
Our critical care service is centered around the MSICU and is staffed with Intensivists who have trained at historic programs such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and who are leaders in the fields of ECMO and COVID-19. We aim for a similar 1:1:2 ratio as hospitalist teams on the MSICU service, and our intensivists, pharmacists, and consultants are skilled teachers of both protocol and physiology. CCU, CVICU, and neuro ICU interest can be easily accommodated. It can seem daunting for upper-level residents to not have fellow coverage at a large tertiary care and shock referral site, but attendings tailor responsibilities and roles depending on resident interest and abilities usually leading to a rewarding critical care experience.

PERIOPERATIVE MEDICINE
The perioperative medicine rotation is a clinic and inpatient based rotation aimed at teaching residents risk stratification of preoperative patients and surgical risk reduction. The rotation is lead by Dr. Steven Embry who is a strong proponent of bedside and point-of-care ultrasound and has been a leading educator of ultrasound techniques.
FRIST CLINIC +
As with our GI service, the rest of our outpatient and inpatient services are in coordination with the clinicians at the Frist Clinic, a premier multispecialty clinic, such as Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, and Rheumatology. These physicians hold certificates from institutions such as the Brown University, University of Alabama Birmingham, University of California San Francisco, University of Michigan, and Vanderbilt University.

NEUROLOGIC MEDICINE
Our facility is a Comprehensive Stroke Center and yields a great environment for learners with a dedicated Neurology floor, Neuro Step-down unit, and Neuro ICU. We place a strong emphasis on neurology in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. As outpatient neurology is covered extensively in the continuity clinic with a staff neurologist, this rotation is primarily an inpatient service and staffed by clinicians trained at the Barrow Neurological Institute and the University of California San Francisco.
